Importance of Right Boiler Pressure
The pressure in your boiler is a big deal and should sit between 1 and 1.5 bar. When you have pressure that is too low, you don’t need to be nearly as concerned as someone that has high pressure. However, even when your boiler pressure is low, it isn’t ideal. You won’t get as much efficiency out of your boiler if the pressure is low. When you have high pressure, you will need to bleed the radiator to lower it. It is extremely important that you are checking the pressure in your boiler regularly so that you can avoid any damage that may come from too little or too much pressure.
Can You Repressurise a Boiler?
No one wants to run a boiler that isn’t working effectively. When the pressure is too low, that’s exactly what you are going to get. This means that you need to top off your system. To do this, you will need to check your owner’s manual, but here is a rundown of what needs to be done typically.
– Turn off your system and allow it time to cool off before getting started.
– You will find a flexible hose that is located beneath the boiler with two valves on each end. This is the filling loop. Make sure that the valves are connected.
– Open the valves which will allow cold water to enter the system.
– Watch the pressure gauge and when it reaches 1.5 start to close the valves and stop the water from filling.
– Turn on the boiler and make sure the pressure holds.
How to Reduce Boiler Pressure
High pressure in your boiler means that the radiator will likely need to bleed. You can do this by pressing a small valve that is located on the top of the radiator. You will need to do this with a radiator key and hold it in until the air has been released. If you don’t, you will likely experience cold patches where the heat isn’t even as well as areas in your home that take longer to heat up.
