Bacteria and sludge: Grease, hair, food, soap residues, and other gunky debris is likely lining your pipes. Even it doesn’t develop a clog, bacteria are attracted to these articles in the drain.
Clogged vent pipes: When substances clog drain vents, water can start to pool in the sink. Due to the sluggish water movement, stagnant odors become evident.

How to Clean a Smelly Shower or Other Drain Cleaning

With several options to neutralize the odors, there may be an instance where a combination of methods may be used. Near boiling water or white vinegar, baking soda, rubber gloves, wrench, bucket, a hose, and a ladder can clean out a smelly drain.
Pour boiling water or vinegar down the drain: Nearly ½ a pot of almost boiled water or white vinegar needs to be poured slowly down the drain. To solidify any residual gunk after letting it seep for 5 minutes or so, rinse the pipe with cold water. With the remaining pot of hot water or vinegar down, flush the drain.
Pour baking soda and vinegar down the drain: Run the hot water tap for several moments and then shut it off. Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain first and immediately flush with 2 cups of hot vinegar. After an hour from when the fizzing stops, turn the hot water tap on and let it wash down the drain.
Clear out the p-trap: To remove the curved portion of the plumbing beneath the sink, wear your rubber gloves and use your wrench. From the trap, use a bucket to empty any water and the gunk. Utilize the garden hose to rinse it out the P-trap once it is removed. Be sure to reassemble the plumbing before using the sink again.
Clean the drain vent: All drains vent, in most single opening homes, to the roof. Climb up on the roof using a sturdy ladder and make certain to clear out any leaves or other debris clogging the drain vent.
