Schedule a Maintenance Appointment Before Summer
When your unit has been sitting all winter long, the early to late spring is the perfect time to get your air conditioner inspected. Having a professional inspection will diagnose any issues big or small, that you may have with your unit.
AC Coolant Pipe Insulation Wrap
The coolant pipes that are located on your air conditioning unit are what supply the cool air into your home. There is a certain amount of insulation that should be covering this pipe to drastically improve its efficiency. Removing the old insulation should be done each year and replaced with new, which isn’t a difficult thing to do on your own. Make sure you are using the specific foam insulation that is recommended by your manufacturer.
Change Home Air Conditioner Filters
A clean filter is essential to your air conditioner working efficiently. When you have a dirty filter, the air isn’t able to flow freely and your unit will be working much harder than it needs to. If your unit is constantly working in overdrive, you are more likely to have repairs and problems. A dirty filter could also mean that the indoor air quality in home is poor and that can cause you and your loved one unnecessary health problems. Your filter should be changed each month when your air conditioner is running during the summer. Again, you should check with the manufacturer and it will tell you how often you should be changing your filter; as each air conditioning unit is different.
Clean Air Conditioner Evaporator & Condenser Coils
The evaporator and condenser coils need to be cleaned regularly as well. If they are dirty, they aren’t able to absorb heat like they would normally, and the efficiency of the whole unit suffers. Cleaning the coils can be done easily with a garden hose as long as you are using caution as to not get any electrical wiring and connections wet. Once you are finished cleaning them, make sure none of the fins have bent. If you notice some of them have been bent, you can straighten them easily using a “fin comb.”
